jkinosh
Working on the design phase of a build in for my living room. Wall Mounted LCD TV, with Electric Fireplace below. I have included a Sketchup model. Model was made with Sketchup 8 Designed using 3/4" ply, but thinking that 1/2" might be suitable. Going to be built as 5 seperate pieces and joined together once in place. Space is just over 11 feet wide. with a counter height of 38 inches. Cabinetry is 12 inches deep and sits 3 inches of the wall giving me a counter to that is 15 inches deep for the Speakers in the corners and the wife to decorate for the holidays. Please, your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. JacobBuilt-In entertainment.skp
Bombarde16
Sorry nobody's replied to you here. My only thought was to make the five-cabinet construction a deliberate part of the design, introducing very subtle steps in both height and depth. Designed using 3/4" ply, but thinking that 1/2" might be suitable. Going to be built as 5 seperate pieces and joined together once in place. 1/2" is plenty strong for electronics, especially if faced with solid stock. The biggest challenge is ensuring that things stay dead straight during glue-ups. Biscuits for alignment are a must, as the half inch stuff seems to want to flex more than its thicker cousin. SignWave
An idea that came to my mind while looking at the sketch is to add bookshelves above the outer two cabinets.
