lobro4
So I just I am in the process of finishing a Table Leg assembly made from poplar with the wood painted black. (With latex paint). I primed the wood with latex primer, sanded, primer, sanded, paint, sanded paint. Looks really nice. But then I wondered. Would our old friend, dewaxed shellac have served as a suitable primer? One coat of shellac scuffed up should have done the trick, no? I have used shellac over and under lot of other finishes but never with paint. Any experience or thought from you all? AceHoleInOne
A thin coat of shellac, then scuffed, is great as a sealer for paint. Works great on pine to help seal in those knots. Even, professional wall painters will spray a toned (white) shellac "B-I-N" zinsser over small repaired areas to seal and prime. -Ace-
