Kimberly Cates Meraz
We purchased a teak table and chairs at the end of January, and sometime in Feb we applied a tung oil to preserve the beautiful natural color of the wood without a shellac finish. The wood is continuing to darken and gray...and looks uneven now. We would like to get it back to the golden, natural finish and don't know the best way to do that. We don't want to damage the wood. We've found some VERY expensive solutions online, but one sounds like its going to bleach the wood to a whiter color. I don't know much about refinishing but I can follow directions. See attached pictures. Thanks, Kim
Tpt life
Teak weathers and most consider it beautiful. It cannot be kept looking raw or fresh if in the sun and weather.
wtnhighlander
Yep, what he said^^^. Teak is one of those woods that is best left to age gracefully. Any action you take to keep it "new" is a losing battle against the sun. From tbe pics, I'd say that with some mildewcide and a scrub brush, you might clean it back to relatively fresh. Then it becomes a matter of shade. Cover it whenever possible, and clean it frequently. Like a vintage Chris Craft boat, it will look like new on the weekends if you keep it under cover all week and scrub it clean after each use.
