meledward23
This is my first complete decent project. I have built many things as temporary stand in items. Dorm type furniture. This chair is all from lumber I had milled years ago from a storm. Mainly Liriodendron tulipifera (Tulip Poplar). Future builds I plan on using White Oak for the legs, and more of the Liriodendron for the rest of it as I have an abundance. I also just joined the guild. Looking at Marc's chair, and considering improvements for future iterations of this chair. Take care,
duckkisser
welcome and why is it called tulip poplar?
Onboard
Mel, that’s a nice looking Adirondack chair. Great job on a “first” build. DK, here’s a link on the Tulip Poplar tree. If you look at the picture on the lower right side of the Tulip poplar tree flower, you can see it resembles a tulip.

meledward23
Common names can be mind boggling to me. Being a horticulturist, I usually tag with both names to prevent complete confusion. Tulip Poplar is named for its flowers. Typically you will not see them except lying upon the ground, since the tree flowers at the top, which is generally very straight and high. I have a second chair coming along with some minor improvements, and one error. With 2 kids, I always seem to rush most my projects into a utility finish. Until I get a chance to go back to them. Which of course never happens.
