Zignot5
I'm pretty new to this forum and the podcast & very glad I found them! I've been catching up on all the back episodes over the past month or two. On a few of the episodes (in the 50-60 range?) the guys were talking about special bit/ device for "hogging" out large amounts of wood quickly. It would be used for a sculpted chair, etc. If they said the name of this bit, I couldn't find it the episodes. Does anyone know what this bit is called? Or does anyone have some suggestions for their favorite ways to remove wood on a sculpted chair seat?
Eric.
Are you thinking of an Arbortech grinder?
Onboard
The only “bit” I can think of, that may be what they were talking about, is the bowl & tray router bit. Example here. I don’t know if you have a Fine Woodworking magazine membership (online), but here’s an article called “Shape Chair Seats with Router”. They discuss the use of a bowl & tray router bit in this short article.
mattvan
I wish I could remember what it was we were describing. I'll have to go back and listen. Kind of sad I was part of the conversation and can't remember it lol.
PaulMarcel
If you're scooping out a chair seat, I think you'd do better with an Arbortec blade in an angle grinder than the router with a bowl bit. I don't have a FWW membership so can't see how they do it, but it seems like it would be awkward to do versus scooping with the Arbortec blade. Plus you end up with that Fozzie Bear look when you're done!
Mister Pants
Having just listened to the first fifty-six eps again while driving from Dallas to Ottawa and back, Matt and Marc had talked about the Arbortech in one of those eps, so I'd say that's it. Marc indicated it was very aggressive and Matt giggled .
PaulMarcel
...and Matt giggled . Well that narrows it down.

thewoodwhisperer
Yeah it was most likely the Arbortech. That thing is a beast! CHORTLE!
Zignot5
Excellent! I new someone would know what I was talking about. I was distracted by the chortling and missed the name. I'm definitley going to have to get one of those... and an angle grinder to justify it! Thanks everyone!
mattvan
Dang that CHORTLE!!! Marc you should put a delay on the show so it can be edited out...or just use the arbortech on the cord connecting that Matt guy's mic to the mixing board Chortle.
