ryandetzel
Was thinking just butt joints since they don't provide much support but then though dowels just to be sure. Do you think it matters?
Rapid Roger
If it were me, I would put two counter sunk screws about mid point of the shelf on each end into the brackets and call it good. It would allow for expansion/contraction of the wood, easy dissasembly for future finishing and I am a firm believer in the KISS method. The screws will seldom be seen and yet keep the shelf from falling off the brackets. But, that is just me. Rog
ryandetzel
I need to attach the side pieces to the center piece too.
mn pete
Another vote for countersunk screws, maybe with a plug to cover the screwhead. A buttoned plug would look good with this style too, mimicing the shape of the end of the pegs. I kinda like like the line of the pegs following the curve of the back. Neat idea. rmason
I would rabbet the sides to center piece and screw, counter sink and plug the top to base piece.
duckkisser
how about just a simple dowl rod system no screws shown and you probably wont put that much weight on it (planing on standing on it?) unless you have a domino system i hear that it has the strength of a mortise and tenon but the speed of a bisquit. bgrella
Floating tenons for the sides (or biscuits) and screws through the top into the back and sides (fill with a plug).
