Stampy
Happy New Year All Been away from the forum for almost a year so I thought I'd start the new year with a post here. I know this topic should probably be somewhere else but I'll let Marc handle that. Looking for a simple and utilitarian tool box plan. I want to build it for my son and put his grandmothers tools in it for him for his birthday. She passed in September and it hit him hard so I thought having this might be a nice touch. Looking for something that is robust, with a top so it could double as a night stand. He only has a one room apartment so doubling up on the utility would be good. Nice to see you all still here and enjoying this fine craft. Stampy
ChetlovesMer
Stampy, Welcome back. I'd like to help you out. What kind of tools are you talking about? I assume woodworking hand tools? Is that right?
Beechwood Chip
Since you are asking for help with a plan, and you mentioned that the topic should be moved, I moved it to "Design and Planning". First step is to figure out how much space is needed for the tools, and if there are any special considerations, like fitted sections for individual tools, padding, drawers, hooks, etc.
CessnaPilotBarry
Have you checked out the "Anarchists Tool Chest"? The book has build details. The chest could easily be modified to a different shape, and could work as a table, TV stand, etc... The sliding trays are nice, the chest is definitely utilitarian, and it is a straightforward build. The book is a thought provoking read in general, too...
